New Museum

Brand Identity, Interaction Design, Editorial Design

Brand Concept
The New Museum is New York City's only institution dedicated exclusively to contemporary art — a museum built on impermanence, where no collection is permanent and every exhibition is new. Yet what endures is the building. The visual identity is drawn entirely from the architecture of its two landmark structures on the Bowery — their silhouettes, their surfaces, and the geometric logic of their facades — translated into a logomark and a generative typographic system. The building is not a reference. It is the source.

Brand Identity
The New Museum's existing identity is built around approachability and digital accessibility, yet it does not fully engage with the institution's most distinctive and permanent asset — its architecture. The existing logo references the building as a flat symbol, but the broader visual system draws no further connection to the physical, material reality of the facades. With the 2026 opening of the OMA Toby Devan Lewis Building significantly expanding the museum's architectural presence on the Bowery, the moment demands a visual language that fully absorbs both buildings — not as decoration, but as a generative structural system.
